Coming Home to Country
Coming Home to Country is Bronwyn Bancroft’s latest picture book and a CBCA Notable 2021 Early Childhood Book. A beautifully illustrated story by a proud Bundjalung woman and artist who uses a poetic form to share her joy of coming home to country with the reader. This book appeals to both children and adults as each is able to engage with it on a different level depending on their relationship with Country and with nature.
We have created 4 activities for this book spanning the Primary School range from Kindergarten or Foundation to Year 6. There is a comprehension on What “Country” means, an art activity, a poem using the senses and a look at country for your students and where they come from.
There is also a video walkthrough of these activities and some suggestions for ways you can engage with your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and allow your students to learn on Country.
The games below are advertisement free and will open in a new window. They can be played by children online as many times as they like. The Match Up Memory Card Game will allow children to improve their memory while the Maze Game lets them develop strategy and problem solving skills while having fun. These games will also build children's attention, concentration and focus, visual recognition and short-term memory. Enjoy.
