Book Activities for Grumble Boats by Susannah McFarlane and Tasmin Ainslie

A 2022 notable early childhood book of the year about a little girl whose grandmother helps her get over her anger at not being allowed to join her brother at a pirate party. This book is perfect for children from pre-school to Year 2 who need to deal with disappointment and anger when they do not get their own way.

The team at learn from play have made 4 activities for this story to allow young children to get the most out of reading it. The activities are recording your grumbles and then making a boat from these grumbles, creating a boat painting to celebrate Emma and Grandma’s grumble boats and putting images from the story in order to retell what happened.

Games

The games below are advertisement free and will open in a new window. They can be played by children online as many times as they like. The Match Up Memory Card Game will allow children to improve their memory while the Maze Game lets them develop strategy and problem solving skills while having fun. These games will also build children's attention, concentration and focus, visual recognition and short-term memory. Enjoy.
