Book Activities for The Boy Who Tried To Shrink His Name by Sandhya Parappukkaran and Michelle Pereira

This CBCA 2022 Notable Children's Picture Book is a clever story that challenges the Australian culture of shortening a person’s name rather than putting in the effort to learn long names so they can be pronounced correctly. While Zim learns to skate, Elly learns how to say his name – Zim-dala-mish-ker-mish-kada.

The team at Learn From Play have made 4 activities for this book which include matching names to their nicknames, handwriting practice with string, a cut and paste recipe for making soft ada and sticky rice and instructions to draw a bird like Michelle Pereira does in the book.

Games

The games below are advertisement free and will open in a new window. They can be played by children online as many times as they like. The Match Up Memory Card Game will allow children to improve their memory while the Maze Game lets them develop strategy and problem solving skills while having fun. These games will also build children's attention, concentration and focus, visual recognition and short-term memory. Enjoy.
