Book Activities for What Do You Call Your Grandma? By Ashleigh Barton and Martina Heiduczek
A 2022 CBCA shortlisted early childhood book of the year this an educational look at the names children use to refer to their grandmothers in different parts of the world. A sequel to What Do You Call Your Grandpa for which we have also created activities this is another great book for young children as it connects them to others and teaches them how we are all the same yet unique.
The team at learn From Play have made 4 activities for this book which are a simple rhyming word matching activity, a matching children to the name their call their grandmother, instructions to make shadow puppets like Tien does with his Grandmother and a cut and paste activity to match grandmother’s names to where they are found in the world.
You may also wish to organise a grandparents day at the school where students can invite their grandparents in to see what they do in a regular school day. Alternatively you could write letters to a local aged care centre to provide a connection between your young students and older members of their local community.
