Book Activities for Xavier In The Meantime by Kate Gordon

A companion novel to Kate Gordon’s award winning Aster’s Good, Right Things this is a story about one young boys struggle with depression and the people who help him. Aster returns as a main character but this time the story is Xavier’s and details his positive affirmations and plans to try to deal with the black dog that is ever present in his life.

The team at Learn From Play have made 6 activities for this book for children from Years 5 to 8. They are an activity to learn more about depression, a comprehension on Crohn's disease, a cross-word of the main characters in the book, an activity to draw two black dogs – one scary and one fluffy and cute to depict the changing states of depression, an activity exploring affirmations and a poetry activity as Xavier explores poetry to express himself.
