Welcome back to Learn From Play for 2021

Welcome back to school for 2021 and to Learn From Play. We are planning on having a huge year this year with hundreds of new book resources, posters and units of work. We will be trialing a new schedule of fortnightly, rather than weekly, newsletters with a blog, 2 books and a poster each time. We are also going to be adding videos for each of our new books with extra physical activities and games you can play with your students tied into each book's theme plus the chance to win a years free membership or a $50 gift voucher.

In this, the first newsletter for 2021, there is an article about new students getting to know each other, resources for the highly acclaimed The Good Egg and Caldecott Award Winner The Undefeated. There is also a poster to brighten your classroom and inspire your new class of students.

As always, please let me know if there are books you would like to see resources for that are not currently on the site including independent authors or older books which you think would be of value to other teachers and librarians.

Blog Article - Breaking The Ice

The article this fortnight is about the The Day You Begin by National Book Award winner Jacqueline Woodson. It is the story of discovery as a young girl who feels different from her new classmates realises that actually she has many things in common with them. As she begins to accept her differences so too do her classmates.

There are a number of activities for using this book with your students plus some fun ideas for physically active ice-breaker style games so your students can get to know each other without feeling self conscious or scared. To read the article click the image above.

Featured Book Resources

The Good Egg

The Good Egg is a fun book about not always having to be perfect and that taking time to relax is important. There are 6 activities for this book aimed predominantly at younger students and a new video showcasing these can be found with the resources. The resources and video are available by clicking the image above or link below

The Undefeated

The Undefeated was the 2020 Caldecott winner and has won many awards for its wonderful pictures and story. The 5 activities for this book are aimed at older students and focus on the message that Black Live Matter and All Live Matter. Again there is a video showcasing these resources available by clicking the image above or the link below.

Motivate Your Class with a New Learn From Play Poster

The poster this fortnight is a great one for the first few weeks back at school as you decorate your classroom with new artworks and try to brighten the place up a bit after the holidays.

As always if you have any questions, feedback or content suggestions for areas of the curriculum that you would like to see gamified send me an email. In the mean time, please help us grow our Learn From Play teaching community by sharing the site with your colleagues so everyone can benefit.
